What does Scoliosis feel like?

Image
Hello everyone, Unless you have scoliosis, it can be really hard to sympathise with someone who has the condition. The physical pain of Scoliosis can be severe, however some lucky people do not suffer at all with pain. The curvature of the spine is not always the direct source of the pain; however it can cause pain to arise in other ways. For instance, back pain can be caused due to the curve putting pressure on the spinal discs, ligaments, nerves and muscles. Severe Scoliosis can also cause misalignments of the hips, this can cause the persons gait to be affected (the way in which they walk). Over time this can lead to leg pain as the muscles over compensate for the lack of balance. Serious cases of Scoliosis can lead to even bigger problems such as cardiovascular/ breathing issues. This is because the curve of the spine progresses so much that it begins to twist the rib cage, which can reduce the amount of space your lungs and heart have to work properly. The emotional side of S...

Best of beauty 2017 - Shower Favourites

Image
Hello everyone, Today I wanted to talk about my 2017 shower favourites. Throughout the year 0f 2017, there has been a lot of interesting products released i.e. shampoo, conditioner, shower creams and much more; all in which promise to do different things for example anti frizz shampoos and hair thickening serums etc. 1) Garnier ultimate blends coconut water shampoo and conditioner -  I've mentioned the Garnier Ultimate Blends collection before on my blog, so I won't talk too much about these products. The shampoo hydrates my hair and has a lovely lingering scent to it. The conditioner nourishes and softens my hair from root to tip. The Garnier Ultimate Blends collection is easily accessible and affordable, I would highly recommend this entire collection.  2) Phil Smith curly locks shampoo and coco licious conditioner - I really like Phil Smith as a brand their products are really affordable and of great quality.  The shampoos and conditioners are ...

Best of beauty 2017 - The skincare

Image
Hello everyone, Skincare is something I love doing and I truly believe that looking after your skin and knowing what skin type you have is important. Once you know what your skin type is you can pick products, both makeup and skincare that cater and work best on your skin. I have normal to dry skin, however it does vary throughout the seasons i.e. my skin is more dry in the winter months. Due to my dry skin I often choose moisturising products to help rehydrate my skin. Throughout 2017 they were a lot of skin care launches and therefore a lot of products that I fell in love with! 1) Simple Kind To Skin Micellar Cleansing Water - I've previously done a more in depth review of this product, and I have gone through multiple bottles of this micellar water. I personally find the micellar water really effective at removing my makeup, it's easy to use and leaves my skin feeling refreshed. I would highly recommend this product to anyone, as it leaves the skin feeling hydrated...

Best of beauty 2017 - The makeup

Image
Hello everyone,  First of all, I want to apologise for the lack of blog posts recently. However, I will be making it up this month by publishing more than my usual 4 blog posts a month. Hopefully you all will enjoy February on my blog. Today I wanted to talk to you all about my 2017 Beauty favourites! I found it very difficult to choose my favourites this year, but I think I've narrowed it down to my ultimate favourites. 2017 was a massive year full of exciting beauty launches and trends. 1) Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer - This concealer was is a staple within my makeup collection, so I knew due to my regular use that this had to be in my yearly favourites. I'm sure you have all heard about this concealer before but it is truly amazing. They have recently released new shades as well, which is great! This concealer is long lasting with great coverage and it doesn't crease on me which is a bonus as most do. The price point is affordable too! 2) Makeup ...

Sleeping with scoliosis - 5 Helpful tips and tricks

Image
Hello everyone, I hope you have all had a great 2018 so far. Today I wanted to talk about some of the struggles people with scoliosis deal with regarding sleep and share some of my tips and tricks on how to get a better nights sleep! Scoliosis can cause ache, pain and discomfort especially at the end of a day, therefore sleeping can be a real issue. I remember before my surgery experiencing quite a lot of problems regarding sleep due to my back pain, so I thought by doing this post I could share with you some of the tips and tricks that worked for me. 1) Pillows - Pillows add comfort and the bonus is you can place them around the area in which you are experiencing pain. They provide support and can sometimes help to relieve some of the pain. Another important factor regarding pillows, is how many you sleep on. This may sound weird, but sleeping with too many or too high pillows can put pressure on the neck and spine causing even more pain and discomfort so make sur...

2017 Beauty Advent Calendars - review

Image
Hello everyone, I wanted to share with you all the beauty advent calendars I purchased this year and my thoughts and opinions on them so far. I will be discussing the quality, design and value for money regarding both the advent calendars featured. Tanya Burr cosmetics 12 days advent calendar - The Tanya Burr advent calendar retails for £30, however I purchased mine from Superdrug for £20. This calendar is aesthetically pleasing and the products are of a good size and of a great quality. Overall, I really enjoyed opening this calendar, however it did have some let downs for instance the compact mirror in my opinion, was of a poor quality and to be completely honest I was expecting something better from a brand like Tanya Burr cosmetics. However, the glitter eyeliners and lip-glosses were the highlights from this beauty advent calendar. I wore one of the glitter eyeliners on Christmas day and I really liked the appearance and effect I received from it. The ...

Celebrating 1 year of Looking Back

Image
Hello everyone, It was exactly 1 year ago today since I wrote my first ever blog post !!, and for me that’s quite overwhelming. Its a big thing to be able to voice my experience to everyone reading this blog post right now, when I was first diagnosed with scoliosis I never thought I would one day be writing blog posts about my journey, but if anything I think this shows me that even though it sounds cheesy anything is possible!  I created Looking Back to help others in the same situation as I once was, I wanted to provide reassurance and comfort to others. I have experienced scoliosis and I remember how daunting it can be, scoliosis was a huge part of my life and to some extent it still is. I publish blog posts about new developments within scoliosis research, new treatments and general news surrounding the condition. Scoliosis is something that interests me, so when new developments occur I find myself automatically wanting to share them on my blog. Looking Back, wasn’t jus...
